Aunt Mammy Bammy Big Money
We're getting my beloved husband Mark a kitten (as well as many other extravagances) for Christmas. We decided to name her Joni after Joni Mitchell. Isn't Joni a lovely name for a kitten? Well, hold on. Mark came home from work with a strange expression. During "wine time" Mark announced that he decided to change the name. Joni will become Aunt Mammy Bammy Big Money from a childhood book, Brer Rabbit. Ok. Aunt Mammy Bammy Big Money. A wee kitten with an endless number of nicknames.

Resting Potential
The turkey is on the counter, frozen solid. The onions are heaped on the floor of the pantry. Beside them are the potatoes. Above them, on a shelf, is a can of pumpkin pie filling. This is what a physicist would call "resting potential". Tomorrow I will be Edward Scissorhands in the kitchen...chop chop chop!

Gray skies and bare silver trees. Settling down, pulling in, thinking about my studio in the basement and the projects that I left on my work table last June, frozen all summer in creative pergatory. Winter squash from the fall harvest is everywhere: on the porch, on the hutch, in bowls on the table... Thanksgiving is Thursday. I love this month.
