Howling Wolf

Howling Wolf by Alison Vernon
30x24, palette knife oil on canvas

I love painting "sound" in a painting, the buzz of a bee, the breaking surf, or the howling of a wolf. This painting also includes temperature. Cool.

Kids at the Beach

Three Kids at the Beach by Alison Vernon

There is nothing like flying south in winter. It's so surreal and gets me everytime. Depart from white silence and land in buzzing color. But it's not happening this year.

Pooches

Lisa's Westie by Alison Vernon
8x8, palette knife oil on canvas
http://www.alisonvernon.com/

I miss my dog, Moses, more than anyone knows. It's been three years and I still think of him everyday. It took me a year before I could paint his portrait which now hangs in our kitchen. He looks so alive. It's strange but in a beautiful way.

New Year's Day

Dinghies by Alison Vernon
http://www.alisonvernon.com/

A strange day. Cold and gray out. Time inches along to the beat of a clock in the kitchen. Kids napping on the couch. Kittens napping on the kids. So quiet and yet my brain is popping with ideas for paintings. Trying to settle into this day, the first day of my vacation.
