Shouded Sun
24x30, oil with palette knives on canvas
I painted this painting about four years ago. It captures a strange moment in the day, dusk with the sun peeking through clouds like a ghost. It was probably in November because November in New Hampshire has the most spectacular skies, also the leaves are off the tree. Shrouded Sun sold yesterday. It went to a wonderful family so it will have a good life.

The male Ruby Throat Hummingbirds have moved south now and the females will be leaving soon. For me, this is the real marker of the change from summer to fall in New Hampshire.

Rooster on a Warpath

We raise layer chickens. What quirky creatures they are. The roosters have huge attitudes and will challenge my husband to a duel any chance they get. The eggs are lovely.

Black Bear at Sunset
Black Bear at Sunset by Alison Vernon
30x40, palette knife oil
I donated this painting to raise money for a young boy in our hometown who has a rare brain cancer. I thought this painting would particularly appeal to his peers and their parents and could generate some much needed funds.
But isn't this crazy? On top of the 24/7 nightmare of dealing with her very sick young child and all the side effects of chemo and radiation, learning the complexities of administering IV nutrition and worrying about inevitable infection, this single mother is on the verge of becoming homeless. Our community is responding but there's an uncertainty to the generosity and the boy will require care for years. For government support, she must fill out stacks of papers which will take months to process and will yield insufficient funds at best. She has already been turned down for fuel assistance because she's not disabled, over 65 yrs or under 6 yrs. I think we can do better than this.
